PlayStation 5 owners will have to wait a little longer to step into the boots of Faye.
Santa Monica Studio has officially announced that God of War Laufey has been delayed. If you were eager (like me) to play the game on February 16, 2027 then you will have to wait, as the highly anticipated action-adventure game is now scheduled to release on May 20, 2027.
The confirmation of the three-month pushback by the developer via social media was like a punch in the face. However, according to the studio, the extra time is necessary to apply final polish and ensure the spin-off meets the high expectations set by fans. Additionally, shifting out of February allows the title to escape a fiercely crowded release window packed with heavy-hitting games.
Instead of following Kratos, God of War Laufey puts players in control of Faye (Laufey the Just) as the series lead, exploring her own distinct journey. Pre-orders and collector’s editions announced earlier this autumn will remain valid, though fans now have an additional 93 days to clear their backlogs before the PS5 exclusive finally hits shelves on May 20, 2027.
Does that delay bother me? Maybe a little. But I know (as we all) that Santa Monica always delivers quality AAA titles. So, I believe that this postponement is definitely for the best. Also, and this is totally my opinion, maybe they would like somehow control the negative backlash the game has till now. Just a thought of mine.
