In case you have forgotten, we have a Tomb Raider series in the making by Amazon and Crystal Dynamics. The cast has been announced for quite some time now, with Sophie Turner set to portray the new live-action Lara Croft. I don’t know why, but disbelief rose quickly on the internet (weird) when the news was spread. But now all you doubters can bite your tongue, because Sophie looks amazing as the female action hero of the famous franchise.

All jokes aside, she looks outstanding and in great shape to represent a role of this caliber. And she is more than capable of leading the series as the protagonist. In my opinion, the doubt should be about the script. If the story is good, then the actors will perform as well. The cast is great overall, as along with Turner, we will also see Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and many more.
As it stands, Sophie Turner will be the third attempt at seeing a live-action Lara Croft, although the first in a series. The other two are Angelina Jolie in the famous duology of the early 2000’s and Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot. Even though the last film was a good try at portraying Lara and Vikander has done well with the role, the truth is that when someone refers to a live adaptation of Lara Croft, Jolie is the first that comes to mind.
Will Sophie Turner be able to make us establish her as the perfect Lara Croft? I really hope so. The series was supposed to launch this year, but I don’t think it’s very realistic to be released in 2026. Perhaps by the end of the year, if all things go well. I also want to remind you that two games are being developed along with the series. The first one is a reimagination of the first Tomb Raider game. It is labeled Legacy of Atlantis and is coming out this year, while the second one is a brand new game named Catalyst, planned to be released in 2027.
Is the Tomb Raider franchise returning to its glory? Most possible. In any case, fasten your seatbelts, and let’s see where the new adventures of the famous female archaeologist will lead us.
